Inspection and Maintenance Methods of Forklift Starter Feb 18 , 2025
1. Inspection and maintenance of shipping container forklift starter housing and pole coil.
1. First clean the forklift starter, then disassemble the starter, take out the armature, and use a tester to check whether the insulation of the pole coil is short or open. If there is a short circuit, the pole coil should be rewound. If there is an open circuit or poor insulation, the fault should be found and welded or insulated.
2. Check the housing of the forklift starter. No cracks are allowed. The two end surfaces should be smooth and flat, and the parallelism error should not be greater than 0.05mm. The coaxial error between the cylindrical surface of the forklift starter housing and the inner cylindrical surface of the pole should not be greater than 0.1mm. When exceeded, a copper sheet can be placed between the pole and the housing, and then the pole is bored, and the gap between the armature and the pole is 0.25-0.5mm.
3. Check the two end covers and the intermediate bearing cover bushing. If the bushing is seriously worn, it should be replaced. The bushing and the end cover hole should have an interference of 0.08-0.18mm. The inner diameter of the bushing should be reamed according to the armature journal and ensure a clearance of 0.03-0.11mm (the clearance of the intermediate bearing is 0.075-0.140mm).
4. The full circle runout of the cylindrical surface at the mating point between the two end covers and the housing to the inner hole of the bearing shall not be greater than 0.12mm, and the circular runout of the two end faces shall not be greater than 0.1mm.
5. Use a 220V test light to check the insulation of the brush holder.
II. Inspection and maintenance of the starter armature
1. Check the armature shaft. If the armature neck of the forklift starter is worn and has exceeded the allowable limit, it can be repaired by electroplating or spraying. If the armature shaft is bent, the circular runout on the core surface shall not be greater than 0.15mm, and the circular runout of the intermediate journal shall not be greater than 0.05mm.
2. If the roundness and cylindricality error of the commutator is greater than 0.05mm or there are scratches or grooves on the surface, it should be processed and polished. However, after turning, the thickness of the copper sheet shall not be less than 2mm, otherwise it should be replaced in time.

3. Use a test light to check the insulation and short circuit of the armature coil. When the armature coil is poorly insulated or short-circuited, it should be repaired locally as much as possible. If it cannot be repaired locally, the coil should be removed and the insulation should be replaced.

III. Inspection and maintenance of the heavy forklift starter drive mechanism

1. Check the tooth thickness, abrasion and damage of the drive gear.

2. Check the abrasion of the gear bushing and the fit of the armature.

3. For the inertial drive mechanism, check whether the combination of the threaded sleeve and the armature shaft, the sleeve and the gear is appropriate, whether the fixing screws at both ends of the buffer spring are tightened and whether the tension is appropriate.

4. For the pulley drive mechanism, check whether the steel column is flexible and whether it slips when it bears torque.
4. Inspection and maintenance of the starter switch

1. Check the starter switch of the forklift starter and the contacts and contact pieces of the relay and transmission relay. There should be no burning and dirt. If there is, please use fine sandpaper or contact file to repair until the contact surface is flat and smooth, and it should be ensured that the ignition and start contacts can be connected at the same time during operation.

2. The series and parallel coils of the starter relay coil and the transmission relay must not have open circuit, short circuit and grounding.

3. For the mechanical direct-operated starter switch, check whether each contact is burned, whether the insulation is damaged and leaking, whether the spring of the contact plate is too soft or broken, whether the transmission fork is straight, and whether the circuit combination push piece and the switch push rod are in good contact. If the contact surface is uneven and burned, it can be repaired with a flat file.
